Ok, we know we need to be IN our bodies - grounded and connected to our selves in order to be fully present - to really take our place in the world.
But many times we find ourselves disconnected or even dissociated from our bodies.
Being in the here and now - being present - requires being in a comfortable relationship with your body. But how do you get from disconnected to having a solid, positive relationship? Especially when even the issue of body-image and body-acceptance can seem so big and scary?!?
How and where to start?
Baby-steps - baby-steps -- but I'm getting ahead of myself...
Here's the thing ~ In the past we've usually started from the wrong end! It turns out that feeling comfortable in your body - being in the here and now - is related to your mind and emotions, not your diet, current weight or exercise regime. Really!!
What's happened to me in the past - and maybe to you too? - is this: When I tried to change my relationship to my body I started with the externals. You know? Like trying to find the right exercise plan, figuring out how much weight to lose or physical activity to gain, comparing myself...
Most programs, books or plans that offer to help you with body issues focus on those things - externals. And they can even work - for awhile. But not for the long haul. For lasting results - for building a solid relationship with your body - you have to start with the internals!
I don't have this perfect yet - but that's ok, because perfection isn't the goal. The goal is a healthy, positive relationship. And here's the key:
All relationships thrive when there's appreciation, gratitude and focusing on the good stuff - and your relationship with your body is no different.
Building a positive relationship with your body requires a shift in focus. Focusing on appreciation - noticing what your body does, it's good points - and away from looks-centered worth will make a lasting difference! It's helped me enjoy living IN my body - where I used to be an infrequent guest.
Choosing Me! uses gentle methods - baby-steps - to help you build that positive relationship with your body that you've always wanted. It works to disrupts the old negative stories that can trip you up.
And it's easy - so different from the usual "try harder!" "Try HARDER!" "TRY harder!" methods. With a little help you'll find that appreciating, being grateful for, and focusing on the good stuff about your body isn't hard - is easy-peasey! And a solid, positive relationship with your body is right there!!
Choosing Me! uses:
- easy, relaxed methods (that "fit" you - you're not forced into someone else's plan)
- perspective shifts - from external to internal (where the real change happens)
- warmth and humor (it's friendly - like hanging out in my kitchen - minus the crumbs)
Choosing Me! includes:
- stories that show how thinking affects our behavior (and how other people see us)
- playful exercises and imagery to help you shift to a lighter, freer, gentler focus
- ideas for setting up your own ongoing positive body-relationship experiences
- tools and imagery to use again and again
*Choosing Me! now comes with a transcript of the recording, so you can read and/or listen (because sometimes you want one, sometimes the other - right?)
