in a used book store. Sales clerk to a customer she'd been chatting with: "Look, we have a copy of Gone with the Wind! It's a great book - you might like it!!"
Customer response (in an exasperated tone): "NO, I only like light reading."
A discussion ensued, the customer attempted to explain what she meant by "light reading". She stated that she was currently reading Tuesday's With Morrie. She was liking it. After all, it was "light reading".
I've read Tuesday's with Morrie, even suggested it (when it first came out) to a couple clients who were dealing with grief issues at the time. I liked it. It's not the most scholarly book I've ever read on grief. It is easily read, very accessible - but I wouldn't call it "light reading".
Ms. Customer kept talking. And the gist of her conversation was (though never directly stated) - the book's heft determines whether it gets the "light reading" seal of approval. Amusing!
I should probably mind my own business - stop listening in on other people's conversations. But they were loud - and it's fun hearing nonsensical comments from others.
People are just sooooo funny!
