...to buy animal products for a vegan. Huh?
My "baby" turns 18 today. For his birthday dinner he requested his pre-vegan favorite mom-made-food - which is quiche. And he wants a "regular" birthday cake (ok, yes, we did cajole him a bit).
He insisted on hormone-free dairy products from free-range, contented animals raised on local farms. Not too fussy (and too old to punk-smack! darn!!)
Lucky for us Slightly-British Daughter keeps on top of that stuff so we knew right where to go. Lucky also that there is a large Amish community not too far away. Unfortunately, it involved trips to TWO different markets - because one had the milk and eggs, but we had to go to another for the cheese and butter.
At this very moment Slightly-British Daughter and Little Princess are decorating the house (my "baby" is a night owl - we don't have plans to wake him until after 12 PM) and we're preparing to party hearty for this big occasion.
I swear he was born just a short - very short time ago. But I'll also swear that I'm 16 - because I feel that way alot (notwithstanding trips past a mirror). Time flies ... and I need to go get to work on my end of the celebrating.
My baby, my kid, my oh-my-god manchild (I have to get used to this - he is so NOT a kid - yikes) is a serious musician. He's awesome! You can hear some of his music at his site: harryscaterson.com. I'm a proud mom!
