Here's today's #reverb10 prompt (by Gretchen Rubin): Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?
Well, I could tell you what the last thing was that I made. But I'm not going to! I'll tell you about the thing I'm working on right now. Why?
I could say that I can't tell you about the last thing I made because I don't have a picture of it - that would be true, I don't. But that's not the real reason why I'm compelled to tell you what I'm working on now (instead of what the prompt asked for). I want to tell you what I'm working on NOW because I don't like following the rules.
It's not that I'm against rules, per se - I wouldn't propose turning left on a red light (well, maybe - on a deserted road - when luck's been good. Nah, ignore that!).
I'm not an anarchist. It's just that...well, I like bending the rules sometimes (and yes, I do know what life would be like if everybody did that -- had that discussion with a dean way back when I was an undergrad. You see, this is a long-standing "problem").
So - with that behind us - what I'm working on right now is the above-pictured gorgeous sweater coat designed by a black pepper designs (that's the link to her etsy shop -- and if you're a knitter and haven't seen her patterns - hie thee hither, pronto!).
I'm making this as a Christmas gift for Slightly-British Daughter (it's not a secret, so we don't have to whisper) - and as a further aside: today I just ordered the Lillian pattern (that's another link to a black pepper's etsy shop - this time straight to the unbelievable sweater pattern that I am sooooooo making for myself starting right after Christmas!).
The last part of the prompt -- is there something I want to make? Yes. Yes, there is. There are. There are a scadzillion (and six) things I want to make - using fabric, glass, metals, words, yarn, paper...oh, just thinking about all the things I still want to make makes me dizzy.
One thing I've wanted to make for a couple years is a sign for over the inside of my front door - it's a phrase from a book called Love Poems from God, which I mentioned in Gwen Bell's blog challenge last year, too. I want to see this every time I head out - it's:
"Go for it, baby; set the world on fire if you can, kick ass for the Beloved with some great art."
Oh, YES!
