Have you heard of Reverb 10? (That's #reverb10, for you Twitterarians) Have you joined?
I joined this year for a few reasons: Jeanne Hewell-Chambers told me about it and asked me to, reflection is good for me (#Reverb10 is about reflecting on the year passing and looking ahead to 2011) and because I was involved in Gwen Bell's blog challenge last year and met a bouquet of wonderful new friends through it!
So - we begin:
In pure Square-Peg fashion I am posting my response to the first day's prompt the day after it went out - sigh. I was so busy jumping around the internet reading others' posts that I didn't have time to write mine yesterday!
Ok, the 1st prompt was:
December 1 One Word. Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you? (Author: Gwen Bell)
Systems. Systems is my word for 2010. It's a downright boring word - not one I'm prone to toss out in regular conversation. It's too - too logical, I guess - for my taste.
But, there you go - Systems sums up 2010 quite well. Not that 2010 was boring or logical - but 2010 required of me that I build Systems. First, of course, it required of me that I accept Systems - and that, in itself, took quite awhile.
I'm not a Systems gal. I'm off-the-cuff, a bit chaotic - and I have a rebel streak a mile wide. The kind of rebel streak that's caused me, in the past, to fight against rules -- even the commonsense ones I set up for myself!
But 2010 let me know that I needed Systems - they're part of a solid foundation (balk! balk! balk!). I could tell you stories - lots of stories - about why I need Systems and what Systems I've built - or am in the middle of building. But I like you, so I'll spare you (for now)...
And so we come to the 2nd part of the prompt - what's the word I'd like to be the one that'll capture 2011 for me (oooh, I know there's a shorter/clearer way for me to phrase that - but I'm going to let it stay the way it is, otherwise I'll be two days late with my first response!).
The envelope, please! Ah, the word is Success. Another word that doesn't roll off my tongue in "normal" (huh, what's that?) conversation. Success sounds too smarmy - too used car salesman. But Success it is. Success is my word for 2011.
Success meaning something financial (financial independence for sure), but not only financial.
Success meaning forward strides (big, forward strides - because there will be two steps forward, one step back - that's just life) in sharing my gifts, in supporting & nurturing women who are ready to live out loud (because they are ready to believe that they are enough, and not too much, right now!).
Yes, that's it - Success in 2011! And here's to it!!!
pssst - I found the sign at the top of this post in Peddler's Village (Bucks County) - at Country Accents. Perfect, right?
