Long, long ago (ok - it was only February 2005) I started Square-Peg People.com - because I'd learned that a writer is supposed to have a web site.
And I was a therapist transitioning into a writer (I now call myself a "recovering psychotherapist", but that's another story). At the time I was working on a girlfriend-style bibliotherapy book pointing to reader-friendly (i.e. not deadeningly boring) self-help books.
The site and community grew - with teleclass gatherings, interviews, articles & e-courses added, but the self-help label felt like it was missing the mark - the focus was off.
What I believe, what my heart treasures & what I love sharing with you is not self-help - it's self exultation, self love, self celebrating!
With the self celebrating focus in mind - I shook up and dusted off the site and re-created Square-Peg People as a space for Square-Pegs to thrive!
A place filled with encouragement, inspiration, resources - and of course stories and humor - to fuel the experience for all of us mindful nonconformists!!
We face plenty of challenges and resistance in the round-hole world (the push toward uniformity and the culture of conform) - it's refreshing to step into a place where:
- folks resonate with us and we celebrate our uniqueness.
- the whole of life (both light & dark) is acknowledged.
- asking "why?" and questioning the status quo is acceptable and even valued.
Hell, many of us have been questioning and Square-Pegging it from the crib.
Here at Square-Peg People we encourage mindful nonconformity, champion uniqueness in all its forms, and appreciate what's right with you (instead of focusing on figuring out, or fixing, what's wrong with you - which is a blechy, nonproductive way to go about things, in my opinion).
I like to think of this space as an encouraging conversation - like sitting around the kitchen table while we share a cup of tea (or cool water, Margarita, mocha latte...). Please take a seat and join in.
